About LL-37
LL-37 is the only human member of the cathelicidin family of antimicrobial peptides. It is cleaved from the C-terminus of its precursor protein, hCAP18, and takes its name from its first two residues, two leucines, and its length of 37 amino acids.
The peptide is cationic and amphipathic and folds into an α-helix in membrane-like environments, the basis of its ability to disrupt bacterial membranes.
