About ACTH 1-39
Adrenocorticotropic hormone is a 39-amino-acid peptide processed from pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) in the anterior pituitary. It stimulates the adrenal cortex through the melanocortin 2 receptor (MC2R), which needs the accessory protein MRAP to reach the cell surface and signal.
Its first 13 amino acids are identical to α-MSH, and ACTH 1-24 (tetracosactide) retains full MC2R activity. Semax is based on the ACTH 4-10 region.
