About Melanotan II
Melanotan II is a synthetic, cyclic analogue of the core sequence of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). A lactam bridge between aspartic acid and lysine closes the ring, and substitutions including norleucine and D-phenylalanine increase stability and receptor potency. It was developed at the University of Arizona.
Unlike the more selective Melanotan I, it activates several melanocortin receptors, MC1R, MC3R, MC4R and MC5R, which gives it a broad pharmacological profile.

Melanotan II is used in research on melanocortin receptor pharmacology, melanogenesis in melanocytes and central MC3R/MC4R circuits involved in energy balance and autonomic function in animal models.
